Anticlastic Raising
A method of forming silver so that dominant axes move in opposite directions creating a three-dimensional curving form.
Bubble Glass Specially made glass that incorporates air bubbles within the Glass by using chemicals between the layers of glass and applying heat.
Cable Necklet
Silver flexible line necklace with silver closure.
Cast
Method of creating solid shapes by using molten silver and
Moulds.
Ear Pin
A straight pin that passes through the ear and is closed by a
plastic or silver butterfly.
Ear Wire
A hook shaped finding that passes through the ear lobe.
Etched
Patterns placed on the surface of the metal by acid.
Family Rings
Jewellery with a specific number of silver ornaments denoting family members or loved ones.
Fiddle Ring
Moving parts of jewellery that can be played with.
Findings Small metal parts which are usually functional rather than decorative e.g. closings, fastenings and joinings.
Frosted A Matt finish on the metal.
Gold I use 9ct and 18ct yellow and also 9ct red (rose) gold.
Hallmarking The official marks that are stamped onto precious metals to show the purity of the metal and the date, place and who made it. Any piece of jewellery containing any non-precious metals cannot be hallmarked. This is usually done as an extra cost to the customer.
Hammered Surface pattern placed by hammering.
Jointed Two or more separate pieces joined together by silver findings.
Junior Small pieces that are a suitable size for children.
Mokume Gane ‘Wood grain’ A Japanese technique that involves heating and
rolling layers of coloured metals to form patterns that look
like grain of wood. I use silver with copper and/or brass.
Patinated The result of a chemical reaction on the surface of the metal.
Patterned The placing of patterns on the metal via rolling, hammering etc.

Reticulated Method of wrinkling the surface of the metal under heat.

Sterling Silver All silver used is Sterling silver. This is a guaranteed standard of a minimum 92.5 per cent silver and 7.5 per cent copper used for all solid silver items and the only silver that can be hallmarked.
